A reminder for all parents of E24/Y9- Could you please ensure students PE trainers for tomorrow’s session 1 to school on Tuesday (first day back).
In addition to this, can students bring devices and headphones for Tuesday and Wednesday if available.

School starts next week on Tuesday 27th August where we will be embarking on a week of crew.
Throughout the week students are required to be at school at normal time (8:30am). We plan to finish all activities with the normal school day apart from Friday where students will return at 4:30 due to field work in the Peak District. Students will require a pen, pencil and ruler this week and a kit list has been sent out for Friday.
The week’s schedule will be as follows:
Tuesday – In school with a normal finish time of 3:15. There is no extended study in school this week.
Wednesday – In school with a normal finish time of 3:15. There is no extended study in school this week.
Thursday – Out of school on a University field work trip- normal time return to school of 3:15. Packed lunch is required.
Friday – Out of school on crew activities so students will need a backpack with a packed lunch, a bottle of water, hiking boots and waterproofs. Please check the kit list for further details of the required clothing. Please can students come to school in trainers, not their walking boots. We are expected to be back at school for around 4:30pm.
As this academic year ends, we’re already looking forward to our first week back!

Thursday: Students are out of school today, within normal school hours. They should wear their usual everyday clothes and bring their bags and stationery. They will also need a packed lunch and a bottle of water (provided for students on FSM).
Friday: Students need to be at school for 7.45am. We will be out of school all day so students will need a backpack with a packed lunch, a bottle of water, hiking boots and waterproofs. Students on FSM will be provided with a pack lunch.
Please check the kit list below for further details of the required clothing. Please can students come to school in trainers, not their walking boots. We are expected to be back at school for around 5pm (to be confirmed during our first week back.)
Please refer to these important docs and ensure you and your child are familiar with them. A medical form will be sent home on Tuesday 27th; please return this to us on Wednesday 28th.

E25 will be holding the Presentation of Learning for their current expedition ‘Three Cheers for Trees!’ on Thursday 18th July at 5.30pm.
Students have been working extremely hard throughout their expedition and this will be an opportunity for them to share their learning with parents, carers and visitors.
We will also have a surprise to share with you at the end of the evening – the grand revealing of our final product!
We look forward to seeing you!
E24’s final presentation of learning will take place on Tuesday 16th July, 5.30-6.30pm, for both 8Pioneer and 8Explorer.
Waves of War is a joint HUMS and STEAM expedition, and the students are looking forward to revealing their final product on the night!
- What is the difference between a meter and a metre?
- How could we use two straws, an elastic band and two paper clips to find the mass of an object?
- How is mass related to weight?

Students will be heading to a location not too far away.
Fieldwork will take part during the normal school day with students travelling on our school minibuses.
Students will require a packed lunch, appropriate footwear and clothing as we will be outside for the day – whatever the weather!
Fingers crossed, if the sun is shining, please ensure students bring plenty to drink (no fizzy drinks or glass bottles) and suncream.
Well, I think 7Explorer are a clear example of the answer to that question!

So, today in HUMAN, 7Explorer have been deepening their knowledge and understanding about the Amazon Rainforest and the flora and fauna found within each layer. Then, along with their senses, they have created a piece of descriptive writing, capturing what their journey might be like as they travel from the forest floor to the emergent layer.
The quality of students’ writing was excellent! Look at some of the sentences students identified as having the ‘WOW’ factor.
Ruby:
‘All of a sudden, the cool rays of exhausted sunlight penetrated the vibrant, green, detailed foliage and stroked my skin.’
Billy:
‘The orchids stand out in the rainforest, adding a florescent and vibrant aspect to this colourful creation.’
Callum:
‘Stridulating crickets fill the rainforest with their loud song which stretches deep into the Amazon’.
Students then went on to critique each others’ work, commenting on ‘What Went Well’ and ‘Even Better If…’ Students were also eager to grade their work.
Take a look at the focus of Marshall, Sami and Ruben as they read each others’ work, write their critique and then share out. Absolutely wonderful!
