E25 and E26 using protocols in Spanish

GoGoMo (Give One, Get One, Move On) and the Running Text protocol were used by E25/Year 10 and E26/Year 9 students in Spanish this week. The former, to make arguments in favour and against viewing films in the cinema and at home, and the latter to help “train the brain” to retain and recall core information.

Our students are well versed in these Expeditionary Learning protocols, as they are used in other sessions to facilitate teaching in learning. Muy bien a todos.

C24 GCSE Spanish – academic crew!

Yesterday morning E24 and X24 got together during Academic Crew to focus on their Spanish. This was to discuss and clarify the GCSE final speaking exam, Monday April 25th – Thurs April 28th, and to practise together. Students supported each other with responses, checked against each other’s work and helped each other to complete preparation. It was beautiful to hear so many Spanish voices. Keep going Year 11!

C24 can breath a huge sigh of relief as the 2nd set of Y11 mocks are almost over (Just a few to mop up)

However, it’s really important that students keep the momentum going with their revision all through the year, and not just before the real deal which starts next month with Spanish speaking.

Click here to view our current enrichment timetable, which includes details of all the all the lunchtime and after school revision sessions available.

We are also encouraging all Y11s to attend D6 on a Saturday morning from 9am-12.30pm each week to access additional support, or just to have a relaxed space for a bit of focussed self-study away from any potential distractions at home. This is also open to our year 10s as they develop learning routines ready for their GCSE year.

For those of you who don’t know, D6 is our voluntary sixth day of school which takes place each Saturday during term time. D6 is led by ex-students of XP who are returning to provide our current students with peer to peer academic study support. There will be additional support from our school learning coaches and members of the Leadership Team.

We’re really looking forward to seeing our Y11s at D6 this Saturday, there are only 9 available Saturdays between now and the end of their GCSE exams!

(Please note that D6 is only open to Y11 & 10 at the moment).

Watch me rise!

As you will know, year 9 have undertaken their passage presentations over the past couple of weeks and as crew leader I have been absolutely blown away. The outstanding craftsmanship and quality has shone through each and every one of Crew Rowling’s presentations.

This has been a turbulent journey and I’m sure that crew will agree that there have been plenty of ups and downs while preparing for their passage presentations. The preparations have taken, what seems like a lifetime but I am very proud of the determination and resilience that each student has shown. The professionalism that each student showed was incredible and it was very clear that passage meant a lot to them.

There were a few nerves leading up to their presentations for some but the amazing friendships and support from crew really shone through with daily debriefs about the passage presentations from the night before and some even stayed behind to give moral support to other crew members. This was something that did not go unnoticed by other staff and experts that joined us.

Here’s just a few snaps I managed to get along the way…

I am incredibly proud of each and every single member of Crew Rowling and we had a 100% pass rate which was incredible!!

Huge well done once again, I can’t wait to watch you all take on the next chapter at XP East.

Visit from the Victoria Cross Trust

We were extremely lucky to have a visit from the staff over at the Victoria Cross on the Lakeside. Mick and Keith came to speak to C27 about WW1 and men from our local area who fought in the war and who have been awarded the Victoria Cross. They also brought with them some WW1 weaponry and the students were immersed in the knowledge and artefacts Mick and Keith shared with them!

The Victoria Cross Trust is an extremely important charity working in our local area. A part of their work is uncovering local history as well as cleaning graves of soldiers who have died in war. Please check out their website https://victoriacrosstrust.org

The students were so intrigued by them, some of them even went over to their shop after school to find out more!!
