C25/C26 Bronze DofE Award

Hi, after a few years of Disruption, DofE will start back as normal in the new school year. For C25 and C26 this has prompted a slight change to plans, due to not being able to complete the Expedition through our normal route. We are therefore giving the students within year 10 and year 11 the chance to complete the award if they choose to.

To take part Students must:

  • Commit to staying behind one day at school to complete the planning.
  • Have good or improving HOWLs.
  • Commit to having one day out of school time and one day of the weekend to complete the expedition.

These students know that this is a possibility so please have a discussion with your son/daughter to ensure that they understand what a commitment this is.

We will start preparation for this in the second week of the new school year.

Madrid 22 Visit – Celebration of Learning

A few weeks ago some of our C25 and C26 students viewed priceless paintings by Picasso, Van Gogh and Dali, relaxed with an ice cream in the Buen Retiro Park, enjoyed a sociable meal out, and rode some scary roller-coaster rides…all over a long weekend in Madrid. This culminated in a Celebration of Learning event last Friday, during which our students invited their parents to view their work journals, and shared their memories and highlights in fluent Spanish or English. The video below was shown at the end of the evening, and we would like to appreciate all the students for their hard work in making this such a success.

First Week Back: Crew Immersion

As Y7 and Y8 go off on their Outward Bound adventure, Y9, Y10 and Y11 will also spend the first week back with their crews undertaking various activities because, if we get Crew right, we get everything right 🙂

The plan for the week is above, and you will notice that it includes a coastal walk to Flamborough. Details of the coastal walk for each year group have been posted on separate blog posts:

Y9 (C27)

Y10 (C26)

Y11 (C25)

Crew Leaders will go through the kit list with crews before we break up.

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s Crew Leader.

C27: Coastal walk on 31st August

As ever, we will be kicking off our first week back at school by regrouping and rebooting Crew.

On Wednesday 31st August our C27 (new Y9) students will be going on a coastal walk to Flamborough.

Students should arrive at school between 8am-8.15am so that we can leave at 8.30am.  We are aiming to be back at school by 3.30pm, but will keep you updated on the day.

All students will be expected to bring the Outdoor Kit listed below:

  • Appropriate rucksack for walking.
  • Packed lunch (those on FSM will be provided with a school pack lunch.)
  • Water bottle: approx 2 litres (no energy drinks, milkshakes or fizzy pop)
  • Waterproof jacket
  • Appropriate walking trousers/shorts/leggings for the weather.
  • Walking top/base layer; made from synthetic, man made material (polyester, nylon etc). This type of material removes sweat away from your skin keeping you cool in hot weather and warm in cold weather
  • Appropriate outdoor shoes (sturdy trainers, walking shoes or walking boots are compulsory – no open toe sandals, canvas shoes or sliders)
  • Sun hat/Sun cream

Extreme Weather Update

I am sure you are all aware that the Met Office has issue the first ever RED extreme heat warning for Monday 18 July and Tuesday 19 July, as temperatures will build this weekend and early next week for
much of England and Wales.

As a school we will be following government guidance:
● Avoiding outside sports and activities
● Reducing break times outside and eliminating them altogether if we feel the need when we assess the heat and amount of shade on the day
● Continuing to ventilate classrooms as much as possible including opening windows and doors earlier in the morning
● Moving lessons to the downstairs floors of our school buildings wherever possible
● low intensity PE sessions only will take place on these days
● Children will continue to have the opportunity to fill water bottles

Where we are able to have fans in classrooms we will do so to support the ventilation

We ask you to support for the rest of the term by:
● Encouraging your children to wear loose fitting, light coloured and comfortable clothing which supports them to keep cool
● Ensuring your children apply sun cream before attending school and have sun cream to reply if they need to;
● Ensure your children have sun hats
● Encourage your children to bring their water bottles

¡BUEN TRABAJO!, Crew Turing!

Mollie & Callum did Crew Turing proud at tonight’s Madrid Fieldwork Presentation of Learning. It was AWESOME to hear about what they had been up to – although we’re not sure we’d have managed as many rides as they did at the Warner Bros Studios!

Fantastic work, guys. You’re already making us proud!

Miss Cocliff & Mrs Parker x

Due to the rising temperature. The Presentation of Learning for Year 7 will be changed to Wednesday the 20th of July.

Year 7 XP East students would like to invite you to their Presentation of Learning. This presentation is the final one for year 7 until their next one in year 8! It is a great opportunity to see all the learning your child has done during their expedition “What a Wonderful World”. This will start at 4pm and last until approximately 5pm. We look forward to seeing you there.
