Madrid 2022 Schedule and Itinerary

We are posting details of our fieldwork visit to Madrid, as a reminder of the measures that parents and carers need to take prior to our departure from the UK, in order to comply with the Spanish authorities’ current travel requirements:

From 12.45 p.m. on Tuesday 21st June, students who have NOT received two Covid-19 vaccinations must take a PCR test (currently available for £39.00 from the Frenchgate Centre) and report the results to [email protected]. This test has to be taken within 72 hours prior to our arrival in Spain.

Students that HAVE received two Covid-19 vaccinations must present proof of their vaccination status, either by bringing in a printout of their medical confirmation or by sharing a screen-shot of their Covid status on the NHS app to: [email protected].

On Wednesday 22nd June or Thursday 23rd June (i.e. within 48 hours of our departure) ALL participants must complete an online health declaration by logging onto this website: https://www.spth.gob.es

Students and staff are really looking forward to this fieldwork visit, as we are sure to have a fantastic experience! The final itinerary and FAQs document will be e-mailed out separately to all parents and carers.

Please note that the Presentation of Learning for the visit, originally scheduled for Monday 18th July has had to be brought forward to Friday 15th July from 4.00 – 5.00. We look forward to seeing our parents and carers there.

A future in Sport

Yesterday C25/ C26 BTEC Sport students had the opportunity to listen to Nick Limber and his background in football. Nick shared with the group his football journey and his career highlights.

Students were able to understand the commitment and dedication required in such a popular industry. He chatted about the different career pathways and the higher education opportunities available.

Thanks for coming Nick.

What connects the Swahili verb “to build” with our E25 Spanish group’s new topic?

The answer is “kajenga”, or its more commonly-known abbreviation “Jenga”. This week our E25 / Year 10 Spanish students constructed towers made out of this 1980s classic wooden brick game to replicate the human towers, or Los Castells, formed by the inhabitants of Tarragona – a tradition that has taken place for over 200 years. They discovered that these human towers can reach as high as 15 metres, and that other than helmets worn by children that scramble to the top, there are no safety nets nor harnesses!

E26 ‘Hold Back The River’ Peak District Fieldwork

Year 9’s current expedition ‘Hold Back the River’ has the guiding question, ‘how does water shape our world?’

During this expedition, our geography content is focusing on river characteristics from source to mouth, river processes, formation of landforms as well as the cause, impacts and responses of flooding. As part of this, we are applying the theory of river processes and characteristics to the field.

On Friday 17th June, students will visit Edale in the Peak District, they will work together to collect data regarding the width, depth, velocity and load of rivers. We will also be capturing the beauty of a river by completing artwork.  This data collection will allow us to accept or reject our hypothesis once we have analysed our data in our maths lessons.

Students will need to arrive at school no later than 8:15am so that the register and kit check can be completed before leaving school.

3 Peak District waterfall walks not to miss

It is also essential that all students bring all of the kit on the KIT LIST so that they are fully prepared for the fieldwork; this includes a packed lunch and water to drink. Students will need to ensure they have suitable walking boots/trainers as well as wellies or a pair of trainers they can get wet – we’ll be going in the river to collect the data!  If there are any problems in getting the appropriate kit before this, please email your child’s Crew Leader.

Students will be returning to school for 3:15pm (if traffic allows). Please ensure that you complete the ‘Medical Form’ which will be given to students this week and return it to Crew Leaders/expedition teachers as soon as possible.

Many thanks in advance for your support with this!

C28- Golf Superstar

During the half term break Sophia Hunter of Crew Boseman in C28 took part in a open golf tournament.

Sophia had kept her golf talents under wraps in crew but after explaining her dedication and standard of play it is safe to say the crew really bought into her playing.

Mr Stables her crew leader was in attendance as she performed incredibly and demonstrated the XP East way on the course in Sheffield.

After a fantastic performance the results came in and Sophia won the tournament, with a brilliant score.

We are all proud and look forward to hearing of more wins in the future.

Well done, Mr Stables

Madrid 2022 parents’ evening Weds 8th June 4.00 – 5.00

We’d like to remind parents and carers of students participating in the fieldwork visit to Madrid that there will be a short parents’ evening this Wednesday 8th June, from 4.00 – 5.00, to issue our final itinerary and to check medical and contact details. The meeting will take place in XP School, on the steps in the heart-of-the-school. Please bring your child’s passport, EHIC or GHIC card, and proof of vaccination status (if they have had both Covid-19 vaccinations). Thank you.

Crew Rashford – Summer is here – Whoop!

Here we are our last leg home to the summer holidays. I’m sure you are just as ready for the warmer weather to join us (still, waiting aren’t we).

I would like to remind you to bring water bottles and sun protection. Its good to stay hydrated helps the brain function!

Additionally to remind all parents and students of the school dress code. False nails, nail varnish, rings, earrings, bracelets and revealing, or excessively ripped clothes are not appropriate.

Additionally this includes PE. Students must bring a complete change of clothes for PE, including footwear. This applies even if the session is at the end of the day as we want our students to develop good habits of changing for physical activities.
