Y8/Crew Malala Learn To Work Together!

Crew Malala have been working on communication and team skills. We talked about how working together means listening to one another and learning how to communicate in a productive way. To practice these new skills, Crew Malala played the spider web game. Standing in a circle, one person had to hold onto the end of a ball of wool and throw the ball across the circle to another crew member. That person had to hold on to the wool and throw the ball to someone else, and so on, until everyone was holding onto the wool. This created a spider web in the middle of the circle. Crew Malala then had to work together to untangle the wool without letting go, with the final goal of standing in a straight line while still holding on to the wool. There was some frustration but by working together, giving clear instructions to each other and listening carefully, they finished the game in a straight line! Well done Crew Malala!

E28 Fieldwork to Potteric Carr

On Tuesday the 12th of July, XPE year 7 students will be going on fieldwork to the nature reserve Potteric Carr in Doncaster. This will take place within school hours; students need to be on time for crew to register as normal and they will be back for a debrief during session 5. Students will be lead by an expert lead into the different species’ habitats that exist in Potteric Carr. We will have the opportunity to explore these habitats, and see the species we have been researching in person. We will study how these species have adapted to suit their environment, this will be followed with lots of time for questions. We should finish our morning with a guided meditation session before we head back on the bus to debrief our day. As we have been studying about animal habitats during our current expedition this is a great opportunity for E28. I have attached a kit list here to help students prepare for the day and weather. Any questions please contact myself or your child’s crew leader.

Students will be expected to stay on site until the presentation starts, and parents should come to reception and sign in. The presentation will be held in the heart of XP East school.

A further reminder will be published closer to the event.

E28 Fieldwork – Friday 4th March 2022

On Friday 4th March E28 staff are taking E28 students to Sherwood Pines in Nottinghamshire on Fieldwork to go to their World War one trench.

Students will be leaving school at 9am and will be returning before the end of school at 3.15 (traffic allowing).

Students will need to bring a packed lunch, a drink, two bin liners (to sit on in the trench) and their pencil case.

Students will need to wear warm clothes (lots of layers) as we will be spending a lot of time outside.  It is also wise for them not to wear their best trainers as we will be walking on paths and in bits of woodland.

Crew Boseman Litter Pick

Last week saw Mr Stables’s year 7 crew Boseman take part in a little micro adventure,

After discussing what they would like to do in a short break from working hard in crew time it was decided that a litter pick would be the perfect activity on a Thoughtful Thursday.

In small teams the students entered into a friendly competition to see who could collect the most rubbish, they were all proud of their efforts and are excited to keep the school litter free for the future. They all pledge to be more responsible for their litter and what impact they can have on the local area. We look forward to seeing more of their hard work in the future!
