Our first curation of students beautiful work

The digital pledges that C24 created during the Stand Up! expedition have been printed, curated and installed! We now have a first instance of beautiful work up on our walls.

Even the CEO of Doncaster Council, Jo Miller, has been tweeting about it.

Jo Miller’s pledge was: In everything I do, I want to ask ‘What do young people think about it? Have you engaged with them? Have you asked them what they think?’

 

Year 7 student Bob not only assisted with installing the curation, he also offered his insight on where the pledges could go. After discussing one pledge in particular, he said it should go in the centre as it was “like putting a candle in a corner of a darkened room”. Excellent work Bob, I think we have a future artist and curator!

STEAM C25 Peer Assessment

After a number of practical sessions and conducting a circus of experiments in STEAM, C25 have started the write up of the particle model using rubrics to peer assess their work. All students have worked hard during the session however outstanding feedback was given by Ruben, Sami and Ruby. They really helped other students to include key scientific words in their write ups to move towards excellence!

 

Next week we will be investigating how gas was used as a weapon in the trenches of WW1!

C24 Chefistry Final Products

Chefistry is a Year 7 expedition at XP East, run between January and February which looks at the science involved in cooking.

These videos was produced by C24 students to show what happens at the particle level when they cook, and also animations which help to explain the practical uses of ratio and proportion in cooking.

Creative summary of chapters 2 and 3 of To Kill a Mocking Bird…

We’re delighted that Alesha chose to spend her extended weekend by being productive and creative with a recent homework task for HUMAN. She has clearly spent a considerable amount of time on her design….and the quality and craftsmanship speak for themselves. This will really help her and other students to visualise the essence of chapters 2 and 3 of To Kill a Mocking Bird.

C24 MyMaths Extended Study

Students have 3 exercises to complete in MyMaths. These are additional practice questions for our Chefistry expedition on:

Ratio and proportion.

At this stage students should not worry about whether they are too easy or too hard, as each task increases in difficulty.

The deadline for both classes is Wednesday at 8pm.

Chefistry Immersion Week

Chefistry is our next Year 7 expedition, running between January and February for STEAM. The guiding question for the learning expedition is:

“What have physics and chemistry got to do with cooking?”

We kicked off our immersion week by visiting King Asia food. The students had a great experience seeing how food goes from an idea, to mass production and distributed nationwide. Below you can see short clip of the students trying some King Asia food. Unfortunately, we could not film inside the main production halls. This is where the students were able to see some amazing food machines, including a rice cooker the size of a lorry! You can find more information about King Asia by clicking here.

Product launch

On Thursday 30th November all of our students came together for the product launch session. During the session students were introduced to the final stage of the expedition and the groups they will working in to produce the final product, then they looked at a final product that has been produced by students from XP.

Students worked in pairs making notices and wonders about sections of the book and then feeding back to the rest of the school. Mr Smith then encouraged students to make suggestions for our product and how we can make it unique to us. The aim of this protocol was to ensure our product is produced to a high standard and reaches the levels of craftsmanship and quality expected of XP East students. By using the XP product as a model students were able to visualise what is achievable as a whole school community when working collaboratively.
