Members of Crew Malala have started preparing for the passage presentations in the new year. Passage is where students have the opportunity to show how they have grown and that they are prepared for starting their GCSEs. This morning students reflected on their time at XP East and started preparing what they want to talk about during their Passage presentations.
Every other Wednesday Crew Malala get their high viz vests on and head out to do their litter pick towards their Bronze D of E award. Crew splits into four teams of three, we use a timer for ten minutes, and divide and conquer the site into zones to make the most efficient use of our time. During debrief of the activity, Crew said that they found these ten minutes really productive, and because they have a fixed amount of time, it goes really quickly and everyone has a job to do. Crew agreed that Pickers of the Week are Will, for retrieving the most amount of litter, and Deanna for taking responsibility for the bin bag. Nice work Crew Malala!
Crew Malala spent some time creating colourful posters to decorate their Crew space. Each student created one letter or star and included a pledge for this term. Pledges include:
Manage my distractions
Show compassion to others
Take on more responsibility in Crew
Challenge myself to stay on task
Improve my listening skills
Every week members of Crew Malala will look at their praises and conducts from the week before, and reflect on how these might help them work to meet their pledges. Brilliant work Crew Malala!
Welcome back to E28. Students spent the morning resetting Crew by playing a round of The Floor is Lava! Students had to work in Crews to move their whole crew across the sports hall without touching the floor or the obstacles on it, all the while keeping a tennis ball in a bit of drain pipe. Students developed their teamwork and communication skills, all while having a great time!
This last couple of weeks Crew Malala has had some really significant successes! Not only have we had 100% attendance for the last two weeks and been top of the attendance league, but we also won the World Book Day quiz achieving 34 out the 35 questions correctly!
However our success is also paying off in lessons. Crew Malala is working hard, getting smart and being kind.
Fasia earned the most praise points in year 8 for the week beginning 20th February.
We also dropped into Maths on Friday lesson 5. At the end of the lesson every member of Crew Malala was nominated for praise from either their peers or Miss Mountain (their maths teacher). It was a really proud moment to hear other students recognising that our Crew are working hard.
A big shout out to Jack and Emily too, as last week they both represented the school at the Indoor Athletics tournament.
Finally, Deanna and Alex have both won major speaking parts in the school’s production of Macbeth. Please keep checking the website for details and performance dates.
Crew Malala had a brilliant term 2A. Here are the best bits:
Student Led Conferences were a smash! Students had an opportunity to reflect on their work so far this year, celebrate their successes and reflect on how to improve;
Attendance in Term 2A has been brilliant, with an overall score of 95.9%;
Students have been working on mindfulness, doing crafting activities to help them focus and manage their school stress;
Crew Malala made it through to the next round of the Playstation Cup!
We are looking forward to what Term 2B might bring!
