E28 Yorkshire Sculpture Park Fieldwork

Students in E28/Year 8 will be visiting Yorkshire Sculpture Park in Wakefield.

This will form part of their immersion for their first expedition of Year 8.

Students will be visiting on Tuesday – 6th September 2022.

We will be travelling by coach, departing at around 9:15 AM and returning at approximately 15:00 PM.

Students will need to bring a packed lunch unless they access free school meals, in which case school will provide one for them.

This is an outdoor site so students will be required to take a waterproof jacket/coat in case of wet weather, and wear suitable footwear (old trainers).

Usual school rules will apply in terms of mobile phones and these should not be used by students on the bus. Students may wish to take devices such as iPads to take any photographs or to make notes.

If your child needs to take any medication, please inform their Crew Leader so that any necessary arrangements can be made.

All medication should be labelled with their name, and passed to a member of staff.

If you have any questions about the day, feel free to contact [email protected]

Y8/Crew Malala at Ullswater – Day 1

Crew Malala set off for Ullswater this morning and arrived safely by lunchtime! After having our lunch and a tour of the centre, we looked at our Guiding Question: What does Crew mean to us? For us, Crew means friendship, being yourself, trust, listening, understanding, and looking out for one another. Then, Crew Malala went for a jog, cooling off by jumping off the jetty into the lake! A great first day!

Tomorrow, we are going on an expedition, so will have no phone signal students will be able to contact home on Thursday evening. We’ll check in again soon!

E24 Results 2022

Wow! What a morning!

We are so proud of the overall great results that our students in the Class of 2024 at XPE school (E24) achieved in our GCSE results.

Early indications show 70% of our students achieving 9-4 in English Literature. 67% achieved 9-4 in History and in English language, all of these subjects are taught within the humanities lessons of our expeditionary learning curriculum. Incredibly, 21% of all our students achieved a 7, 8 or 9 in History. We teach them in mixed ability classes all the way through to the exam.

This E24 success is all about our culture of crew, the E24 student crew, crew leaders and staff crew surrounding the students has supported these achievements despite the disruption caused to their education by the pandemic.

However, academic achievement is only one measure of success.

Through our cross-subject expeditionary curriculum, students have enjoyed an engaging, creative and rich learning experience. This has allowed our students to engage with the world and create beautiful work that really matters and that has made a difference.

For example, all of our students in E24:

  • Have given back to our community through their work at the food bank as part of the BIG SORT foodbank campaign
  • Have given back to our school community by working with lower years to lead crew sessions
  • Have given back to our local community through their work around kindness boxes with Age UK

All of our students in E24 have been the audience for theatrical productions of:

  • A Christmas Carol
  • Macbeth
  • Romeo & Juliet

All of our students in E24 have worked purposefully at university and with experts in school including:

  • Visited Sheffield Hallam University when looking at study skills, working with medical students, doctors and professors.
  • Experts from the Holocaust Memorial Centre who worked with students delivering sessions on the Holocaust and its impact.
  • Experts who worked at the Doncaster Plant Works – the hub for locomotives including the famous Mallard and Flying Scotsman.

Through our learning expeditions our students not only gain the knowledge to pass exams, not just the cultural capital of knowing the world around them, but also the powerful knowledge to positively change the world they will adopt when they leave school.

This builds the character and resilience of our students as we allow them all to respectfully express who they are through their work. The work our students do is three dimensional:

Academic success + character growth + beautiful work = The best version of you

We remind our students throughout their journey with us that, as adults, we are judged by who we are and the quality of our work. This is why we focus relentlessly on character growth and beautiful work as well as qualifications at XP Trust schools. Qualifications will get you through the door. Who you are and the quality of your work will get you the job, the place at university, the start up business loan.

Therefore, we are extremely proud of our staff, students, parents and the wider community that has supported our students to be the best version of themselves. We have achieved all this because of our differences.

We welcome all of our former students to join our XP Alumni to keep in touch with our schools and each other, sharing your experiences beyond our school.

Please remember that – as important as your exam results are – they are just a small part of your XP/XPE journey. We are all super proud of the young people you’ve grown up to be, regardless of what’s in the envelope.

Descendants 2022!!

What a fantastic evening the Dance and Drama Club had last night! After a full day of rehearsals on their first day of the summer holidays, they performed their rendition of Descendants to an audience of family and friends. The atmosphere was amazing, everyone enjoyed the performance and the audience turn out was great! The students worked hard all year round to produce this show and the hard work paid off. It was lovely to see them shine and share their beautiful work through Performing Arts. The Dance and Drama Club can’t wait to get started on next year’s show!

We hope to gain more members in September and hopefully they will join the XP Dance and Drama family, a group full of wonderfully talented human beings!
