Crew Rashford – New Year New Start!

So it begins, the step into our XP Journey….Passage.

We have started to prepare for Passage Presentations during Crew. For those parents who may not know the purpose of Passage here is a brief overview.

Passage presentations are an opportunity for students to reflect on their learning and their readiness to move on to the next phase of their education.

  • To build student investment in high-quality work
  • To hone student oral presentation and critical thinking skills
  • To assess the skills and knowledge of students
  • To increase students’ accountability concerning character development
  • To provide families and communities with an understanding of the standards, learning goals and Habits of Working and Learning
  • To give students an opportunity to synthesise their learning and reflect on their progress
  • To require students to demonstrate preparedness to advance to the next level of formal schooling – GCSE’s.

It is one mammoth task, but it is very much worth the end goal!

We are committed and I am really impressed with the engagement so far. I am really looking forward to seeing what Crew Rashford produce.

Students may be asked to complete some task at home, but don’t peek!

Look out for an invite to attend your child’s Passage around March time.

DofE Update

We have completed the fitness element of our Bronze DofE and now we are well on our way and doing awesome some First Aid training during our sessions.

Additionally, every fortnight we either take part in a school litter pick or lost property maintenance at school.

Students are taking this opportunity to become stewards of our community, making a blog post for students to few all the items and ensure the grounds stay free from litter. It has made a huge difference to the site, super impressive.

Really looking forward to the next part of DofE… what this space for more info!

One last thing!

I’d like to appreciate those students that have improved and maintained their attendance since the start of Y9. You have really stepped up!

We have the opportunity to win an amazing attendance incentive – To Win £50 to spend anyway we wish. Wouldn’t that be Awesome!

Let’s give this term a big push and move back up the league table our current position is No 11.

We can do this – Mighty Crew Rashford!

The first D6 session of the year (Saturday mornings)

On Saturday, we held our first revision session in D6 and it was a great success.

Supported by staff and student mentors from previous GCSE years, some of our Y11s came into school in order to spend time revising for their exams in the Summer.

I was particularly struck by the sense of focus and high levels of concentration on the different aspects of their studies – all on a Saturday morning!

One student explained to me ‘I’m really grateful for D6. It’s allowed me to come into school and do a few hours of revision, and then that’s me done for the weekend!’ Another one explained ‘…the quiet time has really helped me with my revision. I’ll definitely be coming every week as I can already feel the benefits.’

As a reminder, D6 (day 6) will take place every Saturday morning from 09:30 – 12:00.

Y11 (C25) Year at a Glance

Please find attached a Y11 calendar for the forthcoming year.

On here,  you’ll find key dates for things like SLCs, half term holidays, staff days – and most importantly, summer 2023 exam dates. Please note that we are waiting for Spanish speaking exam dates to be confirmed by the exam board.

Y11 are due to finish school the week beginning July 3rd – there will be optional activities taking place during this week, and organisation and dates will be released slightly later in the year – and prom (if students choose to attend) is at Mount Pleasant on July 13th 2023. Further information around other dates will be communicated throughout this term.

On the final page of this calendar, you will find timings of revision sessions taking place in school. Students also now need to be completing a higher level of revision at home – individual subjects will be able to offer guidance around this.

Road Closure Outside School (Wed 11th Jan 2023)

Good afternoon.

We have been made aware that there may be some disruption with the bus route this afternoon. This is due to the road closure outside School as the road is being repaired.
We have made the decision to allow students the option to leave site at 15:05 so they are able to walk to the nearest bus stop in order to catch the relevant bus home.

Kind regards
