Across the XP Trust we love to share our beautiful work, celebrate our communities and share how we do what we do and why we do it.
We have captured, Our Vision, Our Ethos, Our Design Principles – Our Story, in a series of podcasts – The Culture Burger –and thought you might like to experience How We XP and hear about it first hand from our Crew here at XP.
You can now chow down on the entire first series here!
Please check the photograph of lost property in school. There are some expensive coats, and someone must be struggling without their glasses! Any unclaimed items will be donated to charity at the end the week.
What a fantastic two days students across XP and XP East have had!
On Tuesday, Citizenship students, who have been studying the role of the police, and their year group were involved in 3 seminars from Doncaster Police and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue. These included Road Safety, Gun and Knives and Exploitation.
After a fantastic Tuesday, things only got more exciting here at XPE today… Students listened to a talk regarding Dog Handling and were introduced to not one, but two real life police dogs! Isn’t Hudson wonderful? If that wasn’t enough, students were given time to ask all their pressing questions in a Q&A session. Students also experienced all the equipment police officers are trained to use, including riot gear and operating police cars. A fantastic two days had by all students and staff! #WeAreCrew
This week in crew we have been working on our behaviour and howls. We look at the praises we got as a crew and overall we have 49. This week in crew we have been asking certain people about behaviour in lessons. Charlie said there have been lots of improvement in sessions compared since last week and Olivia said that in crew the majority of people have been really good and in lessons, pioneer have been excellent. Mackenzie received an appreciation in our community meeting from Miss Jones for his effort and hard work during a challenging task. Our crew leaders are very proud of us this week as we have been improving a lot and going in the right way with our pledges we made at the start of the year .
Last Tuesday we went to Thackray museum of medicine as part of our expedition ‘You give me fever’. We looked at the different ways medicine has been used throughout history and how it has changed to what it is today. One persons favourite part was when we were given the chance to look around the museum and read the information on medicine’s advancements.
Y9s had a fantastic experience to Thackray Museum as part of the fieldwork for their expedition ‘You Give Me Fever’ last week. Students took part in workshops and enquiries around the museum which focused on the history of medicine over time. Student conduct was superb, and the fieldwork has helped us to broaden our understanding of the topics that we are studying. Check out the short video below for a brief overview.
Crew Marx and Rashford teamed up to go out litter picking in the school grounds! Bags of rubbish collected and put in the bin! Always being stewards of our own community and take responsibility to look after it ourselves!
Last Friday 9 selected students from XP & XPE spent the afternoon at Higher Rhythm listening to presentations from local musicians Dan Whitehouse (freelance musician, producer and educator) & Christian Carlisle (BBC Radio Sheffield presenter and musician). Through the relaxed presentations students got to know more about the opportunities within Doncaster, how to get started in the music industry and learn from the personal experiences of the experts.
Dan chatted to the students about his days supporting the Arctic Monkeys and how he sustains a consistent living as a freelance musician and Christian told the students about his journey from a small Scottish village to arriving in Donny and realising he had a talent for radio. He is now the main man for giving rising stars and fresh new acts a break on BBC Radio Sheffield through his show, BBC Introducing.
Also while we were at Higher Rhythm, Dan gave us a tour of their facilities and explained the ways our students could get involved in order to support their next steps in the business through level 3 courses and Post 16 opportunities along with volunteering sessions and short courses.
Dan showing us the control room within the studio. The live room! The teaching room and Mac suite.
It was a great way to experience a local organisation supporting the development of local students into the world of music and how to create a career in this exciting industry. The energy and passion Christian showed us was infectious and he highlighted that if you have the drive to succeed you can achieve whatever you want.
A special mention must go to Chrissy Moog from Higher Rhythm for inviting us and to Mrs Burns (XP / XPE Careers Lead) for her support in organising our involvement too.
