C27 Fieldwork to Shrewsbury

Year 8 across both XP and XPE will be attending fieldwork to Shrewsbury Prison. This is an opportunity for them to get inside a prison and experience what life would be like. Shrewsbury is a Victorian prison which is now used as a museum and is no longer a working prison.

We will be leaving school at 7:30 on Thursday 30th June. Please can students arrive no later than 7:30. We aim to arrive back at school between 3:30-4 traffic pending.

Madrid 2022 – PCR test reminder!

We’d like to remind parents and carers of students on the Madrid visit that from 12.45 p.m. TODAY onwards any participants that have not received two Covid-19 vaccinations must take a PCR test and report the result to school, in order to meet the entry requirements of the Spanish authorities. A further reminder that our group travel insurance policy does not cover students against the possibility of their inability to travel due to returning a positive result, and so parents of unvaccinated students are advised to take out their own separate travel policy to protect any payments made in this eventuality.

Students who have received two Covid-19 vaccinations are required to provide proof of this to school please. The easiest way to do so would be to e-mail proof (screen shots of the NHS app etc) to: [email protected]

Please keep checking for further updates and reminders. Thank you.

‘Take Me to the River’

Crew Rowling along with the rest of E26 went out on fieldwork last Friday to Edale. The feedback from staff that accompanied them expressed how impeccable their behaviour was, I love hearing such feedback as crew leader! It sounds like a great day was had by all. I also managed to get my hands on some gorgeous photos by Harvey and Olivia from the fieldwork.

Monday morning we took on the challenge of walking a mile in crew to promote sport within school. Luckily the sun was shining and C26 had a pleasant 4 lap walk around the 4G court.

Leading our Own Learning’

Students seem to be settling well into their chosen pathways on a Wednesday afternoon. I can’t wait to see them expand and further their knowledge in whichever path they are following.

Keep up the good work guys!

A Successful Bake Sale!

Crew Rashford’s bake sale was a huge success.

We chose the charity Cancer Research to help support Jorja-Riley Walker in raising funds.. Crew wanted to show their support by holding a bake sale to raise funds alongside the race for life Jorja took part in on Sunday 19th June.

We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who purchased the treats on sale. Also to those who donated cakes, brownies and yummy delicious goodies without you all we would not have been able to raise so much money.

We raised over an unbelievable £145.63 in aid of Cancer Research, a charity that is dedicated to saving lives through research, influence and information, in 1 hour. This includes the online donations that were made during the bake sale.

Crew is very grateful. Thank you 😊

E28 Explorer writing their opinions on deforestation.

E28 Explorer worked really hard on Friday writing their opinion on deforestation, which is the end of their second case study. Students have been learning about the impact that humans have on the natural world as part of their expedition ‘What is our relationship with the natural world?’.

“Something wicked this way comes.”

On Monday 13th June 2022, C25 were treated to a visit from Dr Todd Borlik from the University of Huddersfield. Dr Borlik is a published author with expert knowledge of Shakespeare and ecocriticism. The lecture was a great opportunity for pupils to strengthen their understanding of the social and historical contexts of Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’, and to test their knowledge of the play so far.

Pupils were impressed by our visitor’s ability to remember lengthy quotes from the play and that he could change “his tone of voice and facial expressions for different quotes.” This will really help the pupils to understand the importance of performance and stagecraft when writing about ‘Macbeth’.

Revision Skills Workshop

On Friday 10th June 2022, C25 pupils took part in a revision skills workshop. The workshop was delivered by visiting experts from the University of Lincoln and included guidance on how to use mind-maps and memory training to improve revision. There was also an activity on Cornell note-taking, along with supporting resources.
