Explorer in the lab.

Students in 7 Explorer spent time in the lab discovering the difference between physical and chemical changes. They made observations as they moved through a carousel of experiments and discussed their findings.

We’re delighted that Alesha chose to spend her extended weekend by being productive and creative with a recent homework task for HUMAN. She has clearly spent a considerable amount of time on her design….and the quality and craftsmanship speak for themselves. This will really help her and other students to visualise the essence of chapters 2 and 3 of To Kill a Mocking Bird.

Very well done Alesha!

7Explorer Working Hard!

Today in our HUMAN sessions, we have started work on our first draft of a piece of writing analysing the character of either Scout or Jem Finch in ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’.

Just look at how organised and focussed students are!

They are making excellent use of the resources they have been given, including a rubric, adverbial phrases and conjunctions, a copy the text and identity charts.

We are working hard to achieve or exceed our MEGs.

Extended Study: Creating a Journal

As part of our expedition ‘Stand Up!’ we would like students to keep a journal, which will support the work we will be doing in our HUMAN sessions.

Each student will be given a journal but we would like the journals to be personalised using images which represent the student’s identity.

To help with this, we would like students to collect images of things that are important to them.

Images could be collected from magazines, the internet, drawings done by the student themselves, etc.

Please bring these into school no later than Thursday 1st February.

Thank you

It’s now time to record your synopsis of Chapters 2 and 3.

Remember – your task is to show a key moment from the chapters, including key characters and a description of an important event.

We would like you be creative, thinking ‘outside the box’ about how you could represent your work.

Examples might include artwork, modelling, collage, use of ICT, poetry, etc.

Looking forward to seeing your work!

Due: Tuesday 30th January

This week in X Block we were set an Art challenge – could we sketch a portrait in under 5 minutes?

So, using handy hints to help us with proportion and sketching techniques, we started…

Look at our amazing outcomes!

Class challenge

Today 7 Pioneer were given total control of their learning: they had to teach the session!

They were given 40 minutes to make sure that they – and their classmates – could explain the physical changes of solids, liquids and gases with the overall aim of completing the following worksheet (from memory) by the end of the session:

As teachers, it was interesting to see how the students worked together as Crew to organise their time in order to maximise learning.  They broke the lesson down into chunks allowing enough time for independent research, sharing knowledge, plus some time for revision, before they had to complete the worksheet by themselves.  This will be peer assessed during our next session.

Great work, Pioneer!

C24 MyMaths Extended Study

Students have 3 exercises to complete in MyMaths. These are additional practice questions for our Chefistry expedition on:

Ratio and proportion.

At this stage students should not worry about whether they are too easy or too hard, as each task increases in difficulty.
