On the last day of this term, Friday 20th December 2019, and all other half terms going forward, school will be closing for all students at 1:30pm after Crew for staff to prepare for the new term. There will not be any provision for students to stay after this time so all students must leave at 1:30pm.
The Year 8 STEAM presentation of learnings will be held on:
-
Pioneer: Wednesday 18th December, 5-6PM at XP East
-
Explorer: Thursday 19th December 5-6PM at XP East
The students look forward to sharing the work they’ve been studying in the STEAM expedition, where they have been working towards the guiding question “What is the state of the nation’s health and what should we do about it?”
We welcome you to invite family and friends to the event, sign in will begin at 4:45PM on both nights. We also ask that students remain in school from 3:15PM until the event, if there’s an issue with this don’t hesitate to drop me an email: [email protected]
Great work on the first draft of their product in Explorer this morning: rubrics, WAGOLLs, plans, and other resources out.
And pens working furiously!
Great work, Explorer!

You may have seen earlier in the week we posted about Crew NJO harvesting the vegetables from the XP and XP east garden… well they’ve now made their way to the food bank!
Over 4 bags of freshly grown beetroot, leeks and carrots were delivered, just in time to support those in need around Christmas!
We received a fantastic reaction from the food bank which makes it all worth while! Having been there myself they are some of the most selfless and inspiring people I have ever met and I am glad we could do something to help them.

Well done to all involved in building the planters, planting the seeds, caring for the veg, harvesting it and of course delivering it all last Tuesday evening!
We are crew.
Students in E25 were joined by visitors from the Conversation Club on Tuesday morning where they hosted ‘Minute to Win It’ games.
As part of our expedition ‘Should I Stay or Should I Go?’ we are answering the guiding question, ‘Why Should We Care About Migration?’, which means we have spent lots of time meeting and interviewing asylum seekers from our local community, finding out what it is like to move from one country to another and what the difficulties are.
During the morning we moved away from interview questions and instead focused on building a sense of community. Students really enjoyed teaming up with friends from the Conversation Club in order to compete against each other, whilst having fun- with a few surprises along the way!
We would like to appreciate those that took time out of their day to join us, with a special thanks to Nic for his extra games providing us with lots of laughs! See why here:
I am very proud of all of the students in E25 for the compassion they have shown throughout the expedition, it was heart warming to see the smiles on everyones faces this afternoon!
As part of the Government and Politics A-Level course it is important students understand the broad spectrum of political opinions and parties. The year 12s attended the ‘Brexit Party Tour’ at the Doncaster racecourse. They listened to all local Brexit candidates speak as well as the leader of the party, Nigel Farage who answered pre prepared questions from people such as ‘Dave from Donny’ 🤔.
Rory was interviewed after the meeting and did a sterling job discussing Brexit and how this issue has got many people interested in politics.
Tom, Rory and Poppy want a disclaimer: they do not support the Brexit Party.

ANOTHER win for XP.
Monday night saw XP compete in a tough 10 goal thriller football match, coming out as 6-4 winners against a well organised and competitive ASH HILL side. The team showed great courage and compassion towards others and the team to overcome difficult moments in the game to come out winners.
Turning our working hard and getting smart howls from the classroom to the pitch, enabled the boys to show resilience as a crew to come back from a losing position. Whilst also adjusting to new situations, learning new roles and working effectively as a team on and off the pitch. This highlighted how much the boys are improving in their howls and character values, always becoming better crew members.
Well done lads!
Crew NJO braved the cold this morning harvesting the vegetables that were planted during the staff induction in the Summer.
Using gardening tools, we uprooted the carrots, leeks and beetroot and placed them into a bag ready to be sent to the food bank. Some of us enjoyed getting our hands dirty and I therefore need to apologise to parents sending students home to parents with muddy clothes! It was all for a good cause!
As a crew we felt this was another great example of us being kind. We hope those accessing the food bank enjoy the vegetables just as much as we did harvesting them!
We would like to appreciate Alfie and Charlie who helped us by showing us how to use the equipment, refresh the soil ready for replanting and taking pictures!
We have 3 pairs of glasses that have been found around school and no one has claimed them as of yet.
If you recognise them, can you please ask your child to go to the office at XP.
Many thanks.

Students in 9Pioneer and 9Explorer will be presenting their learning from our expedition Small Change on Wednesday 4th December at 4.30pm in XP East School. Students have been working towards a number of learning targets focused on the GCSE text ‘A Christmas Carol’ and the historical context of the period when Dickens wrote the novella. We would like to invite you to hear from your son or daughter and see the work they have produced in order to answer the guiding question: Why do we still need charity?
We will also be asking, if possible, for donations to support the work of the Balby Church food and clothing bank.
FOR THE FOOD BANK: food that just requires hot water adding: e.g Instant porridge, Cup Soups, Mug Shots, instant/pot noodles(supermarket own brands are ideal)
FOR THE CLOTHES BANK: all types but the greatest demand is for jeans, joggers for men and all clothes for children aged 6-18.
Thank you in advance.
