Crew Curie: Our Leadership Challenge

At XP our design principles are what guide us and the work that our community does.

In Crew Curie we have challenged ourselves to develop the leadership aspect of our design principles. As a Crew we will be doing weekly work in developing sports leadership with a focus on organisation, planning and communication skills and will be looking to develop the essential character trait of courage. We have decided that we will plan and lead a series of sports and activity sessions for students in year 7 later in the year and have begun looking at some of these fundamental principles so that we ensure our success.

In today’s session, we welcomed Crew Marx to join us for a game of dodgeball. I’d like to appreciate Olivia and Ethan in particular for their enthusiasm in our work so far in organising and leading the session today. Her are a few photos of the session running with Ethan having the guts to stand up in front of his peers and lead the session. Well done, Curie. Looking forward to seeing where we go next!

Careers Fair

As part of National Careers Week, Year 10 and XP16 have a fantastic opportunity on Thursday 10th March to attend Doncaster Racecourse, who are hosting a Careers Fair with stalls from a variety of industries and Post 16 education providers and universities. The students will be leaving school for the afternoon and will be back in time for the end of the day. This will introduce them to the opportunities available in Doncaster as they prepare for their GCSEs next year and their next steps in their academic journey.

D6 is paused for this weekend as we have staff days on Friday and Monday. Most year 11 students are in school for the staff days so it would be unfair to ask them to also attend school on a Saturday.

D6 will be running as normal next week, Saturday 19th March and moving forward for both year 11 & year 10. With only a few weeks left before GCSEs start please encourage your student to attend. Just 6 sessions can make a huge difference to outcomes for students committed to improving their grades.

Common Mission Dance Fieldwork

There has been a last minute opportunity for our Common Mission Dance students. On Thursday 10th March, staff are taking Common Mission Dance students to watch ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ performed by the National Theatre at McAuley’s Lower School.

Students will be leaving school at 2pm via staff cars (business insured). The performance and Q&A will finish around 4:30pm. Parents/carers are welcome to collect their child from the venue, if this saves you travelling time. For those students who aren’t being collected, staff will take them back to school for around 4:45pm (traffic allowing). If you are collecting your child from the venue, please let me know via my email [email protected].

There has been a content warning sent out regarding the performance. There will be adult content in the production so please speak to your child about appropriate behaviour in the theatre. Photos will also be taken of the students during the show, if you do not give permission please let me know and I will ensure they are not in them.

Boys Football Fixtures

After another fantastic week of extra curricular activities we are not slowing down this half term.

This Wednesday (9/3/22) we have boys football games at Home and Away vs Sir Thomas Wharton Academy

Y7- Away

Y8- Home

Y9- Away

Y10- Home

The team sheets have been put up on the PE notice board and students are too tick their names to confirm their attendance

The fixtures that are at home (Y8&10) will be finshed by 5pm to be pick up at XP

The away teams (Y7&9) will be back at XP for 5:30pm

Please bring Trainers and Boots, shorts, socks and shin pads (also layers to keep warm)
