E27 have officially began their new expedition “You Give Me Fever,” an expedition that takes students on a journey through the fascinating world of medical history.
During their immersion experience, students have had the opportunity to learn about medieval medicine and the changing treatment of those with mental health issues, including the infamous Bedlam Hospital. They will also examined a variety of medical artifacts from throughout history, giving them a deeper understanding of how medicine has evolved over time.
In addition, students will have looked at different parts of the body under the microscope and learned about the bacteria and fungi that inhabit our world. They have also played the popular board game Plague Inc., which allowed them to experience first-hand the challenges of containing and combating the spread of disease.
But the learning didn’t stop there. As part of immersion, students have taken swabs of different locations around the school to grow and study bacteria and fungi. This hands-on activity gave students a unique opportunity to explore the microorganisms that exist all around us and learn about their importance in our world.
“You Give Me Fever” is a exciting and educational expedition that will give students a deeper understanding of the history and science of medicine and public health. Be sure to ask them about their studies throughout the term as they answer the guiding question, Is science enough to save lives?
We are pleased to announce that the Presentation of Learning for Year 7 last expedition will take place on 9th January at 7pm at XP East ( this is for both XP and XPE students).
Students will need to leave school at their usual time and come back to XP East at 6.30pm. We ask parents/carers to come into school from 7pm.
Students will be showing their Art work before the premier of their film which answers the Guiding Question ‘What does Doncaster owe to Mining?’. After the film, Carlton Main Frickley Colliery band will play a number of well-known songs. We will finish the presentation of learning approximately 8.30pm.
As part of Y11’s History course, we have a wonderful opportunity to visit the site of Wabtec in Doncaster – which was formerly Doncaster Plant Works – a massive part of our heritage! One of the history GCSE papers Y11 will sit is based around this local site and we’re really privileged to be able to visit the birth place of both The Mallard and the record breaking Flying Scotsman – where students will gain a real insight into the site’s significance, both locally and nationally.
ALL of X25 will be attending on Tuesday 17th January 2023. Admiral’s fieldwork will take place in the morning, leaving XP at 9:15am and returning at around 11:30am. Admiral will be in sessions as normal in the afternoon.
Skipper’s fieldwork will take place in the afternoon – leaving XP at 1:30pm and returning back to XP for around 3:00pm. Skipper will be in sessions as normal in the morning.
Lunches should not be affected, but students may wish to bring a packed lunch. We have now secured a coach to take us to and from Wabtec.
If you have any questions/queries, please contact crew leaders, or the following:
We have been informed by Doncaster Council today, that there will be a road closure on Stadium Way starting from Monday next week 09/01 between 8-4:30 or maybe to 3:30. It will start from the roundabout and closing chunks of the road off as they go on. We have been told we will have access to car park 3 and access to school won’t be affected however, we are sharing this information with parents to support you with drop off and collection if this may affect your onwards journey or planning.
Year 8 parents have been emailed the link for their son or daughter to have the HPV vaccine at school on 7th February 2023. The link needs to be opened and a short consent or not to consent permission form from the parent/carer needs to be sent off as soon as possible.
The flu vaccine for Years 7, 8 and 9 will take place next week – Monday 9th January. If parents missed sending in their permission for this, RDASH have their walk-in session at Lakeside on Sunday 15th January between 09:30 and 15:00hrs.

It’s been a bittersweet end to the term for Crew Turing… Whilst we celebrated the end of the year with our (not so) Secret Santa and by winning XP East’s Christmas Quiz (a Christmas miracle!!), the fact that it’s their last Christmas at XP East has been mentioned more than once.
We have definitely seen and felt Crew grow even closer and strengthen bonds over the last term. They will need the support of one another more than ever once we return in January for what will be a challenging term from the get-go, with mock exam feedback, student led conferences and the final build up to GCSEs.
Crew have lots to look back on and be proud of from our first term together, not least the fact that attendance and punctuality is improving (every day at school matters, guys!) However, our biggest shout out must go to Mollie who sat her RE GCSE at the end of Y10, achieving an impressive Grade 9! We were very proud to present her with her certificate in Crew. Massive congratulations to you, Mollie!
So, Crew Turing – it’s time for some much needed rest and relaxation and we can’t wait to see you all in 2023 fully prepared to face the next part of your XP East adventure together.
We’d also like to thank you all for allowing the two of us to be part of your Crew.
