E26 Mercury

A new term a new start. Mercury got a shock on their first Wednesday back. As a crew, we should work together and run crew in the way that we want it run. This is obviously within the ethos of the school! I was very shocked that by Y10, Crew Mercury, are under the impression that this is simply so that we can “use it as a stick to beat them with”. With one response being “why just ask to us repeat everything that you would say”. At this point I explained to crew that I was going to leave them for 10 minutes (I didn’t go far) after 10 minutes I went back and they were creating their Norms poster, they immediately said “we’re not done yet can you give us more time”. I was very proud that they took this on and completed it, knowing that it is their thoughts.

In addition to this, before the end of last term, students took it upon themselves to add pictures from their experiences in Wales to our crew wall. Awesome.

Crew Marx lesson visits

I have been to visit Crew Marx in session today, it is great to see them learning without me stood at the front! They have had some Spanish and Citizenship this afternoon!

Kiahna completing some work on climate change and the importance of how we treat our planet during citizenship. I also visited the other half in Spanish learning about what they can spend their pocket money on and the importance of the language.

Keep up the great work guys!

Crew Malala Highlights from Term 2A!

Crew Malala had a brilliant term 2A. Here are the best bits:

  • Student Led Conferences were a smash! Students had an opportunity to reflect on their work so far this year, celebrate their successes and reflect on how to improve;
  • Attendance in Term 2A has been brilliant, with an overall score of 95.9%;
  • Students have been working on mindfulness, doing crafting activities to help them focus and manage their school stress;
  • Crew Malala made it through to the next round of the Playstation Cup!

We are looking forward to what Term 2B might bring!

Football roundup

The Y7 and 8 boys football teams played against Danum on Wednesday evening. The 7’s at home and 8’s away.

It was the 7’s first game as a team with very little training. They put up a good fight after going 1-0 down early on. XP responded with a goal moments later with the score at 1-1. It stayed that way until the last few minutes when Danum scored from 2 free kicks to make it 3-1. It was a great effort from the boys and I’m sure there will be more to come in the upcoming fixtures.

The Y8’s started brightly away from home. Seeing a lot of the ball early and creating numerous openings with no reward. XP’s defence were solid and not letting Danum create openings on the counter attack. Danum were frustrating XP with the goalkeeper pulling off a string of fine saves.

Into the second half and XP continued to have a lot of the ball and create numerous chances. 10 minutes into the second, the ball was played down the right, crossed in and volleyed in at the back post. A composed finished from Ethan. XP managed to see out the rest of the second half without much trouble. Final result Danum 0-1 XP.

Well done to all teams!

C28 Casting Auditions

Our C28 cohort have been working incredibly hard on our Macbeth content including analysis and drama techniques!

The first week back after half term on Tuesday after school we will be hosting auditions for our central characters such as Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and the Weird Sisters. Any students who have put themselves for a lead role will be asked over half term to memorise a number of lines from one of their favourite scenes, in order to perform a portrayal of their chosen character.

The cast will be finalised in the first week after half term.

In the second week back, we will be offering drop-in drama sessions to help with characterisation, line delivery and confidence building.

Further information will be posted on google classroom and parents and guardians will be emailed in due course.

Have a wonderful rest and let’s come back re-energised ready to smash the rest of our expedition!
