To help your student to achieve the grades they deserve encourage them to attend D6 on Saturdays, 9am – 12.30pm. There are 11 more available Saturdays left of D6 this year, that’s 38.5 extra hours of quality revision supported by coaches who have been through the GCSE stage at XP, are experts at revision, study planning, answering exam questions. At the moment D6 is open to all our year 10’s and year 11’s.

Year 11 Crew Leaders, Phase Leads, Teachers and Learning Coaches have put together a website to support your student whether in year 11 or year 10 by creating an enormous resource bank with a range of different techniques to revise. Please encourage them to access these resources in the run up to summer exams.
Year 9 (E26) School Leaver booster
Year 9 (E26) are able to have the School Leaver booster on March 21st. Emails have been sent to parents with an attached link that needs to be filled in and sent off. This is consenting for the School Leaver booster. Please check your emails, if you haven’t received this link then you can contact your son or daughter’s crew leader or [email protected] to be sent the link.
C26 – Thackray Museum of Medicine Fieldwork
Students in C26/Year 9 will be visiting the Thackray Museum of Medicine in Leeds.
We are venturing out on 2 separate days as part of their current expedition ‘You Give Me Fever’.
XP East – Tuesday 15th March 2022
XP Wednesday – 16th March 2022
The primary purpose of the visit is to explore the galleries which will help students get to grips with the science behind disease, and the state of public health when Victoria was on the throne. This opportunity to travel back through time and meet key figures in the fight against disease will support the learning on how its history can help us inform the very current issues we face today.
Oh wait there is more… Alongside this amazing experience, we are also booked on a workshop that looks at the following – Does history always move in a straight line? Is innovation always straightforward? This engaging talk uses events and changes throughout medical history to consider the past, present and future of medicine.
We will be departing at around 9:00 AM and returning at approximately 15:00 PM.
Students will need to bring a packed lunch unless they access free school meals, in which case school will provide one for them.
Students will need to dress appropriately and in line with the school dress code. As we will be walking around the museum, comfortable footwear is required.
Usual school rules will apply in terms of mobile phones and these should not be used by students on the bus. Students may wish to take devices such as iPads to take any photographs or to make notes.
If your child needs to take any medication, please inform their Crew Leader so that any necessary arrangements can be made.
All medication should be labelled with their name, and passed to a member of staff.

Bit of History!
The museum building has a long and chequered history.
It first opened in 1861 as the purpose-built Leeds Union Workhouse, a harsh and unwelcoming home for poor and homeless people with nowhere else to go. Over the years, new buildings were gradually added to the workhouse complex, including a separate infirmary.
Crew Malala Take on Nature!
Crew Malala were set atwitter, as we took on the mammoth task of getting involved in the RSPB’s Big School’s Birdwatch! We are so lucky to have a school positioned so close to nature and we couldn’t wait to get out there and see what we could find!
The ground was muddy but that didn’t stop us! We donned our extremely fancy capes and were on our way! What did we notice? Well, there are an awful lot of magpies around our school!
What did we wonder? Where did the huge flock of seagulls disappear to after our dinner time?
What did we question? What other creatures could we find? We tried to track down a frog or a toad in the marshy puddles but alas we had no luck this time!
When we returned to crew, we tallied up just what we found and we were all extremely surprised!
We really enjoyed talking about nature and we plan on spending more time outdoors taking care of our environment really soon!

Crew Young, right on it, right NOW!
There’s a real productive “hum” currently emanating from Crew Young’s base classroom right now. This is due to each student pairing up with another to revise for the maths mock exam. Lewis and Summer are talking sines, cosines and tangents, whilst Louie, George, Maclaren and Dominic are describing the difference between mean, median and mode averages. Eleanor is attempting a past paper and Isabel is studying quadratic equations.
Go Crew Young – let’s smash this exam out of the park!
