Beautiful Work This Week

XPCC23

“Every young person should learn about climate change in school. It’s marginal to most people’s curriculums – not XP School as you’re such a brilliant school”

Ed Miliband – Shadow Secretary of State for Climate Change and Net Zero

After the success of our inaugural conference last year and with climate change at the heart of our activism as a Trust, we held this year’s event on 13th July with the question: If not now, when? If not us, who?

The programme for the evening featured the work and research of our Year 10 students and the contribution of experts from across our region.

Powerful keynote speeches, delivered by six students left the audience in no doubt that the planet is in crisis and action has to be taken now.

What that action might be was ably and inspiringly answered by the panellists taking part in our Q & A.

These were The RT. Hon Ed Miliband MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Climate Change and Net Zero; David Pulham, UK Manager Vossloh and Tim Newton, Sustainability officer, Doncaster City Council.

The conference also featured many stalls covering such subjects as Sustainability and ‘greener’ food, as well as scientific demonstrations and break out discussions.

One of the breakout presentations was delivered by Dr Mike Sprakes, Gastroenterologist, Mid Yorks Hospitals NHS Trust and Peter Leighton Jones, Head of Sustainability, Mid Yorks Hospitals NHS Trust.

Their talk focussed on Climate Change and the NHS.

We’re already thinking about next year’s conference – but more importantly if you can pledge to make a difference all year round we can all work together to save our planet. There is no Planet B.

C25 Save the Date: GCSE results day and presentation evening

GCSE results will be available for collection from XP School on Thursday 24th August between the hours of 9.30am-11.30am.

Please read the following information about the collection process:

  • Entry and Exit will be by the usual student entrance at car park 3.
  • Each Crew will have a designated area within the heart of XP school (all students of XP and XPE will collect their results at XP School).
  • Crew leaders will have the results for their crew.
  • Students will have the opportunity to wait on the stairs whilst waiting for a space with their crew leader.
  • Students can open their results envelope with their crew leader or leave school to open them.
  • If students want to speak to crew leaders after they have received their results they will need to wait on the stairs.
  • Students will need to complete a destinations form with Mrs Burns before leaving school. Mrs Burns will also be available to discuss next steps, if required.
  • If students have any concerns about their exam results they must email Miss Cocliff (XP) or Mrs Parker (XPE) in the first instance outlining their concerns.

Official GCSE certificates arrive in School late October and students will be invited to a presentation evening in November to receive their certificates and awards. This is provisionally timetabled for 16th November at 5pm but we will send out confirmation in the new school year.

We look forward to seeing you all on the 24th August.

We look forward to seeing you there! In the meantime check out the agenda below!

You are invited to E28 POL!

E28 POL is taking place on Tuesday 18th July. The POL is taking place at 4pm till 5pm over at XPE stairs where students will be showcasing the amazing work they have completed over this expedition.

We look forward to welcoming you and see you in attendance next Tuesday.

‘We are the champions!’

WOW! What can I say, Crew Rowling were incredible on sports day!

First off, we took on the athletics track and field and dodgeball. Ben and Harvey competed in the long jump, Oliver competed in the tennis ball throw, Thomas and Cerrina ran the 100m sprint and then we had an unbelievable team for the 400m relay which included Oliver, Ben, Cerrina and Thomas.

While this was going on Layton, Shawn, Lily, Logan and Faith played dodgeball. Hearing crew chatting before heading to this event they seemed to be positive and afterwards it sounded like they worked really well as a team (I would expect nothing less).

Our second session consisted of football and rounders. Both teams did really well in these sports and staff were complementary about their conduct at these events.

We then spent time drawing up and narrating our Crew mascot, completing a sports quiz and recreating an iconic sporting photo. Then we headed over to the athletics track to hear the results of the day…

Crew Rowling were announced as the winning crew for E26!!

Crew showed excellent sportsmanship throughout the day and both Miss Johnson and I are incredibly proud of them.
