October Half Term – Early Finish

Hi all. Just a quick reminder that the last day of this half term is a Friday 13th October and it is a 1.30pm finish. There will be no provision for students to stay in school after this time. This is to allow all staff to de-gunge the school ready for our return.

We return on Monday 30th October.

Best wishes. XP East School.

C26 (Y11) Weekly Planner: 9/10/23

Y11s will be sitting their first round of mock exams this week. As such, there will be no after school learning labs this week. Academic Crew and lunchtime learning labs will still be running as normal.

Please note that students will receive a letter on Friday outlining which non-core learning labs they will be expected to attend after the half term. We are really pleased with the attendance at these learning labs and would like to thank all parents/carers for supporting these.

Just a reminder that Y11 will be going to see Romeo and Juliet at the West Yorkshire Playhouse on Thursday, and aren’t due back at school until approx. 4.45pm.

It’s been an absolutely awesome first term back for Y11 – staff have been really impressed with the focus and hard work in sessions. We hope you all enjoy the half term break – please have a well deserved rest!

Mrs Parker & Miss Cocliff 🙂

With Me In Mind- Health and Wellbeing Support

With Me In Mind has been specially designed and produced by the children and young people themselves in collaboration with NHS organisations, councils and schools.

The aim of the service is to treat pupils with mild to moderate mental health issues and to support those with more complex needs to access specialist NHS support.

Last week, Mel (Senior Practitioner) visited both XP and XP East and spoke to students in all year groups about the support her team can offer for those experiencing:

  • Low Mood
  • Anxiety
  • Self-esteem
  • Wellbeing
  • Sleep

Students will be able to access support through a variety of different means, including 1:1 sessions, groups work or corridor drop in sessions. (Please note: 1:1 sessions will require a referral from school).

Their website contains a whole host of new resources to help children, young people and parents with a range of mental health conditions.

The website can be found at www.withmeinmind.co.uk

Post 16 Open Day- Harrison College

Is your child on the autistic spectrum?

Are you worrying about finding a suitable destination for them at the end of Year 11 or Year 13?

Are you worried about them not continuing in education due to their lack of engagement and understanding?

If you have answered yes to any of the above questions, Harrison College may be the solution.

Harrison College is an independent post 16 business, enterprise and employability provision for young people with ASD and/or SEMH. They have identified that there is a gap in the education provision for young people with ASD, particularly those that are high functioning, so they have created a learning environment that is professional, and business focussed, bridging education and employment. They have an over 95% success rate in securing destinations for their students.

They are holding our open evening on Wednesday 15th November 4pm – 6pm.

You can find a wealth of information on their website www.harrisoncollege.co.uk

If you are interested, we encourage you to book a place using the enquiry form on their website Book a Visit – Harrison College, indicating Open Evening in the preferred time and date.

They look forward to welcoming you at the event- we hope you find this information useful!

Y11 (E26) Awesomeness Community Meeting

Today’s Awesomeness meeting was just that, with so many reasons to celebrate our awesome Y11s 🙂

We had a bumper batch of praises/appreciations to go through from staff, followed up with some lovely appreciations from students afterwards.

There is a strong sense of crew throughout Y11 – and that’s what’s going to get them through next week’s mock exams… and beyond!

Keep working hard and having each-others backs, Y11… You have smashed your first term back!

If it is good enough for our kids…

Last week we had the first of our staff days for this term. We have two staff days each term at XP so that our teachers can collaborate across the Trust to create and deliver the high quality curriculum that our students study. On Friday 22nd September we shared our key priorities for this year and prepared for our student showcase. We also shared good practice between crew leaders to support student attends, HoWLs and academic performance.  On Monday 25th September we carried out phase microadventures that focused on staff crew development including pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones and replicating some of the things we do in the first week back with our students, reminding ourselves of our character traits.

Ron Berger came to visit

Our staff and students were privileged to take part in a master class around ‘beautiful work’ where Ron shared beautiful work from across the states but also from our trust schools. He spoke about the craftsmanship and quality seen in our schools when he shared highlights of his visit with our students. It was great to hear him talk about ‘courage’ and how we all have different courage but for some of us it is easy to be courageous when public speaking, for others it’s easy to be courageous when abseiling from a bridge. We will use this language with our crews as we reflect on our courage.

Find out more about Ron Berger and his influence on EL Education in America, the books he has written and why we value his views on education by following this link https://eleducation.org/who-we-are/people/ron-berger/
