Crew Ardern set off on their Duke of Edinburgh expedition yesterday. It was a warm day and one where students had to show teamwork, resilience and communication skills to work their way back to camp. We returned to camp around 6pm, where we had food, relaxed and engaged in some activities. We look forward to setting off for the second half of the expedition this morning. (Although there are some tired bodies and minds).
Crew Malala had a very long, very warm, but very successful Day 1 of their D of E Bronze Expedition. Students packed up and left school this morning, setting off for a 10K walk from Norton Junior School to Brockadale Nature Reserve and back again. Students worked on teamwork, listening skills, supporting one another, and digging deep. It was a tough but rewarding day. Please check out the first round of photos. More to come tomorrow!
Well done to Crew O’Grady this week for competing in the National School Sports week football tournament. It was great to hear you were working together as team.
Today in crew we went through praises and conducts for everyone. It was great to talk about all the hard work that is going into Maths and Art at the moment. Lots of praises for working hard, getting smart and being kind.
This week, we had the privilege of hosting the Conversation Club at our school, where we learned about the challenges faced by refugees and asylum seekers. It was eye-opening to discover that they receive just £50 a week to cover essentials like food, clothing, and hygiene products.
One of the significant expenses they encounter is transportation, which can cost up to £5 a day. This is a considerable amount given their limited budget. However, we realised that having a bike could eliminate this expense entirely, providing them with free and reliable transportation.
To help make a difference, we are organising a bike drive. We are reaching out to our community for donations of any old bikes that you no longer need. Bikes in any condition (unless completely broken) can be incredibly valuable. At XP we pride ourselves on our curriculum themes and our outward facing work, and this is opportunity for our Crew to participate in both!
You can drop off your bike donations at XP/E, and we will ensure they reach the Conversation Club, who will distribute them to those in need. Your generous contributions will be greatly appreciated by the refugees and asylum seekers and will help ease their daily struggles.
We are currently holding GCSE Art coursework from students who left us in the Summer term of 2023. As part of our preparations for the new academic year we’ll be disposing of this work if it’s unwanted. If you would like to take your sketchbooks and final pieces from the coursework or exam projects then please get in touch with us before the end of next week, Friday June 28th.
You can contact school or anyone in the Arts team and we’ll set your work to one side. You can come to collect it at anytime, please just let us know beforehand so we can get it into the office for you to collect.
Good luck to all our year 10 students who are taking part in work experience this week, what a range of opportunities for these young people as they gain a taste of life in the working world. We have students working within the trust to students travelling around the country, one student in London for the week. I hope each and every one of you show your employer just what an amazing young person you are, we believe in you and hope you have a wonderful experience. Remember you are amasadors of XP Doncaster, so WORK HARD, GET SMART and BE KIND and I look forward to hearing all about your adventures. Mrs Burns
XP Gateshead Students Shine as Digital Leaders in Exciting Expeditions Project
Students at XP Gateshead are stepping up in a big way as Digital Leaders, diving into the world of technology to record content for their Expeditions. Teaming up with the XP Trust Comms Crew, these young tech enthusiasts are taking on the role of professional sound technicians. They’re not just learning the ropes of audio recording and editing – they’re skilfully mastering them, gaining hands-on experience that goes beyond the classroom and reaching into real-world applications.
It was so inspiring to see these students get stuck in and take charge of such an important project. Across our Trust, students are constantly proving that with enthusiasm and dedication, they can achieve anything. A massive appreciation to these Digital Leaders for going above and beyond!
