Shackleton Craftsmanship and Quality

It’s been an absolute pleasure to receive emails about some of the amazing things being done in Crew Shackleton while at home this week.

Special mention for April – what an amazingly gifted and caring young lady. Not only has she been working hard on school work, but she’s been using her sewing machine and old donated materials to make masks and headbands for NHS staff. i was clapping for April at 8pm this evening too.

If there was an exam for kindness, April would get a grade 9. Take a look at some of her handy work…

(Thank your mum for the photos!)

And it’s brilliant to get emails from teachers too showcasing the brilliant work being done in lesson at home. Mr Nixon emailed me today to share some of the amazing work completed by Lilly, celebrating the standards we’ve come to expect from her.

Take a look…

Outstanding craftsmanship and quality. I’m a HUMS teacher so I’m taking Mr Nixon’s word for it that the maths is good! Well done, Lilly.

And not forgetting other conversations I’ve had about James and his work ethic and beautiful work at home; Nikodem completing all the tasks each week on time and to a high standard; and all the students in Crew Shackleton who are showing great independance and resilience to keep going despite these challenging times.

You will all be sorely missed. Keep up the amazing work.

Student overview for WB 13.04.20

Hi everyone,

I hope all of our families have been able to enjoy the Easter break, even during this difficult period for us all. As I look outside this morning, Spring is definitely in the air and let’s use our continued educational provision to establish some sense of routine back into our lives. I for one am raring to go with regards to meeting up with our staff online in order to get stuff done!

Please find below this week’s overview for students. You will notice that due to the Easter bank holiday weekend, and due to the calendared Staff Days, no work was set for Monday and Tuesday of this week.

Also, check out our video by the Edge Foundation entitled ‘XP: All about Crew’. We love it!

Best wishes everyone.

Free School Meals National Vouchers

Good morning,
The DfE portal is currently experiencing some issues and we are aware that parents may not have received their vouchers for the Free School Meals National Voucher scheme.
Whilst we wait for the issues to be resolved, the school has purchased additional ASDA vouchers for these children and families. These vouchers have been emailed to all our known FSM families.
When the DfE vouchers do eventually come through, these can be used for next week’s allowance.
We will then arrange for further vouchers for the week beginning 20th April which we hope to have with you by the 17th April.
Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions. If you are one of the families that opted out of receiving FSM’s in the first instance, or you feel your situation has changed due to the Covid 19 crisis please also get in touch.
If you are not a FSM family, but may now need support, then please use this link to apply to the Local Authority and find out if you are eligible. Please send your results on to us as soon as you receive them and we can add you to our list.
Many thanks,
XP East

Student overview for WB 06.04.20

Hi everyone,

please find below this week’s overview for students. You will notice that due to the Easter bank holiday weekend, and due to the calendared Staff Days, no work has been set on Thursday and Friday of this week or Monday and Tuesday of next week.

We will continue with our in-school provision for children of key workers.

If families require any additional support or help with ideas, please check out this section of our ‘Family support centre’. There are lots of links to suitable learning activities and useful learning resources.

I encourage all students, families and staff to try and take the foot off the pedal and enjoy wherever possible the Easter weekend during these worrying times.

If the guidance changes, this process may change so please keep an eye out for updates.

Thank you and good luck!

Updated ‘timetable’ for students

Hi everyone,

we have updated our approach to the weekly overview for students. The timetable should act as a guide that can be used flexibly depending on your circumstances. Essentially, families and students should ‘try and do what you can – when you can’. We don’t want any of our families to be worried or stressed about the challenges surrounding completing work at home.

To build on this, there isn’t a specific amount of time that students need to be working on school work. If parents would like their children to enjoy the sun (if it comes back) with their family, then that is absolutely fine with us! Whilst it is important that students engage with what teachers are setting, the timetable is there as a guide to provide structure for families.

Read more about the changes here, especially the suggestions for ‘Common Mission’.
