Community Engagement at Age Well Doncaster

Crew Rashford’s fieldwork for community engagement this term was a massive success.

This is the first time we’ve had the opportunity to get out and socialise with our community.

What an afternoon it was. We walked up to the centre in quick succession, ok ok… maybe not as quick as Miss Bowser and I would have liked but we got there haha.

We were greeted and warmly welcomed by the service users of Age Well Doncaster as we handed out our personalised handmade Christmas cards to the service users along with a lovely box of biscuits.

Here are some of the thoughts and feelings from Crew.

Manveer: ‘I enjoyed talking to the people at Age Well Doncaster. It was nice to see their reactions on their faces that someone was coming to visit them for Christmas. They were all so kind hearted and loving’.

Emma: “My experience at Age Well was exciting . We made them all individual Christmas cards and it was nice to see the joy on their faces when they opened them”.

Tayla: “When we went to the Silverlink centre it was lovely. Lovely to see their faces as we asked them such small simple questions like how was their day? It was nice to see their faces smiling when we asked about themselves. It’s the small things in life that make your day and it’s important to be kind, it is the key to making others happy and I think we all need a bit of it in our lives.”

Sofiya: “ I enjoyed going to Age Well and meeting people like Olga, Winnie Cyril and more. They were very nice and we took them a box of biscuits to share.

Miss Bowser: “Last week’s visit to Age UK was brilliant, it was really moving seeing the impact it had on not only the service users but also the children. The children couldn’t stop talking about it and it was brilliant to see them communicating after such a tough few months with covid it really boosted their confidence and self esteem. I’m looking forward to returning in the new year and can’t wait to get involved in lots more activities with them!”

Mrs Watson: “Such a humbling experience. I was absolutely blown away by the level of care and compassion students displayed. It was amazing to see and hear everyone interact, make conversation and also show understanding and kindness.”

Keegan: “Great, I would like to go again”.

Zak: “My experience at Age Well was very warm and welcoming everyone there were very nice and joyful and wanted to know plenty about us”

Jorja: “I really enjoyed talking to elderly people, it was nice to see their smiles”.
