It was great to welcome our new Y7s at both XP and XP East today. After so many concerns, questions and worries our school corridors and classrooms were buzzing again today – and I’m absolutely delighted that the day went so well.
The morning started with a community meeting for Y7 students from both schools in the Sports Hall at XP East. I explained to all students that despite feeling a little bit nervous about starting a new school, it was actually an exciting time because it was a new start for everyone. I built on this by saying that everybody enjoys the feeling of having a new start somewhere (including staff!). It is a time to leave any problems or issues that may have happened elsewhere and seize this opportunity to start afresh.
Students were then organised into their Crews, where they spent the entire day working with their Crew Leaders, reflecting on XP’s character values and habits of work and learning. The majority of this time was also spent just getting to know each other – after all, strong and purposeful relationships are at the heart of everything that we do.
A special thank you to Mrs Vayro (Assistant Principal for the Y7 phase at XP & XP East) and the Y7 team for such a well organised and thoroughly enjoyable day.
