Hi all. Just a quick reminder that the last day of this half term is a Friday 14th October and it is a 1.30pm finish. There will be no provision for students to stay in school after this time. Big C Little Warrior
As you may remember, Crew Rowling previously raised money for the local charity Big C Little Warrior. Once again we would like to support them and our latest fund raising activity is a bake sale. This is going to be held on Wednesday break for students and staff. Crew have been busy making posters to promote the event in crew and have really taken their time to ensure their craftsmanship and quality is of the highest level. We will update you after half term with how much we raise for this fantastic charity.

C25 Careers Fair
C25 students attend a careers fair and Elland Road. Students had the opportunity to speak to various universities and other career pathways. Hopefully this has given them an insight to what careers are out there.

This week Crew Rashford set up their account for our new online library myOn.
myON is a student-centred, personalised digital library that gives students access to more than 7,000 digital books. Titles are dynamically matched to each individual student’s interests and reading level. Combined with a suite of close reading tools and embedded supports, myON fosters student engagement and achievement. There is something for everyone!
We searched the vast library and have now selected a book to read during our reading time.

Crew Anoa’i: One Week To Go!
We only have one week left and that’s the first half term done! Again, Crew Anoa’i have had another good week in crew, creating a great atmosphere to be in.
To start the week, Crew Anoa’i began colouring their own Mandalas. A geometric configuration of symbols that are commonly used by tantric Buddhists as an aid for meditation. There were some beautiful designs and choices of colour used. Once finished, our goal is to place them on our crew wall to add a pop of colour to the room.
On Tuesday, some of us went over to XP to discuss Work Experience and our list of ‘to do’s to ensure we are all ready before next Monday. The rest of us completed our forms for Work Experience and then started to create some flash cards for a subject of our choice.
Wednesday, our team building activity day! This week we were joined by Crew Ali and some of Crew Parkinson. We went outside to complete a variety of activities, some required teamwork and some required early morning brain power. This was my highlight of the week, seeing other crews join us and having some fun. What a great morning!
On Thursday, Crew Anoa’i composed our weekly appreciations, reflecting on the week we’ve had. We then moved on to some self study, allowing us all to focus on our own topics.
On Friday, we cleaned our crew room, ensuring it was spotless before we left for session. Everyone counted their class pack item and added any missing equipment to the list, as we like to keep our crew room neat and tidy every day for others to use. Crew Anoa’i take pride in being great stewards of our school.
One week to go. Let’s keep going!

Lost Property

C29 Experts – CMFCB @ XP
Earlier in this expedition C29 were treated to some world class experts visiting school in the form of the Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band.
The students were able to watch the band rehearse and see the microscopic detail that was drawn out by the Musical Director Allan Withington. It was an amazing opportunity for the students to hear a brass band in such top form as they prepared for the British Open Brass Band Championships.

The band went on to give an outstanding performance at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall from a number 1 draw. Playing number 1 also meant they made history at this brass band contest by being the first band to play ‘God Save The King’.
Following the contest day and all the excitement of the performances and of course the results, students debriefed the contest in our following lessons together. We listened to some of the recordings from the day and analysed the final placings. We continue to reference our visiting experts in most lessons as part of our expedition ‘From The Ground Up’.
We would like to thank all involved in the Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band for their support of our expedition and for giving our students such a high quality experience. We look forward to welcoming the band back in the future.
Y8 Football Enters the National Stage
Our Y8 boys football team entered into the national cup for the first time this past week. At home to Howden after going into the break 2-1 down the squad showed real fight and won the game 3-2, advancing into the next round of the national cup. Our goal scorers where Harry Butler x2 and Ethan Conway.
Well done boys, we are excited for the next round.
Crew Ardern check in
Crew Ardern were feeling a little sluggish this morning. As a crew we decided to have a morning wake up call and participate in physical activity for the check in to get our brains engaged. Students had to complete each exercise for the different letters of their name. Everyone really engaged and was a fantastic start to the morning.
