XP and XP East had the honour of listening to GB 200m runner Beth Dobbin during community meetings. She inspired us all with her achievements as a sprinter, talking to us about working hard and demonstrating great resilience to overcome injuries and becoming part of the GB squad. What a fantastic role model she is to young aspiring athletes. Thank you for sharing your journey with us and hopefully we will see you again at XP/ XP East.

REMINDER – Car Park Fines

Thank you to all those who have supplied their car registrations to the school. We have logged all these as permit holders with Doncaster Rovers so that you are able to park in their Car Park 3. This does not include any of their other car parks.

Please remember to update us with any new car registrations as soon as possible. We will input these within a few days of receiving them so please ensure you do not stay in the car park longer than 30 minutes within that interim period.

We are unable to revoke any parking fines so it is important all parents submit registrations. It is your responsibility to supply new registrations to us and/or not park in the car park longer than 30 minutes until registrations are added to the permit list.

If you do receive a fine please contact the school office. We can provide you with a standard letter to state your child attends XP and Doncaster Rovers allow us to use that car park. In most instances fines have been cancelled, although recently there have been occasions where the fine has only been reduced. To re-iterate, the school is unable to do any more than this so please ensure you are doing everything you can to avoid a fine.

Thank you.

Our Year 9 Pledges

As we come to the end of the first term of Y9, Crew Finch took time to reflect on their progress so far and made pledges for next term.

We focussed on three specific areas:

Attendance:

We are tracking attendance because, as our board says, every day at school matters!  When we mapped this on the board we soon noticed that our overall attendance needs improvement: only 4 out of 12 Crew members have achieved 100% attendance this term!  It was a bit of a wake up call to realise that if you’re around the 96% attendance mark (which sounds quite high) you’ve actually missed 7 days of school per year, which equates to a whopping 35 lessons!

Accelerated reader:

All our students sit STAR Reading tests at the beginning and end of the school year to track progress in reading ability.  I’m pleased to report that the latest results shows that all Crew Finch have improved their reading levels.  We all know that reading improves comprehension and vocabulary, which in turn helps us to understand texts and write more creatively in other sessions.  Well done Crew Finch!  We still have one dedicated reading session per week, and Crew will also be helping Y7 students out by listening to them read for 15 minutes a week.

Crew HOWLs:

Crew are assessed on their Crew Habits of Work and Learning.  I have shared the data with Crew and they agreed that I have been fair.  There are a few students hitting 4.0 across the board, but I have had to take into account those students who let Crew down by consistently not completing extended study, or by not coming to school with the right equipment, or by appearing on the conduct form.  This has been reflected in scores.

Our pledges:

So – after all that discussion Crew have set themselves targets for each of these areas for the next term.  These range from “I will aim for at least 98% attendance” to “I pledge to read at least 3 books to end without skipping any pages” (!!)

This lot are so focussed so I know that they’ll smash their targets by the end of next term!

Learning to fly with E25!

Following the amazing National Theatre production of ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time’ that came to XP East last week, E25 grappled with some physical theatre in the style of Frantic Assembly. After we reviewed our ‘Notices’ & ‘Wonders’ regarding the performance we did an exercise called ‘Push Hands’ developing trust which led us onto trying a lift! All the class supported each other (physically) to keep the ‘flying’ student safe and feeling secure. Well done X-Block Crew!

Girls PE Leadership in Sport

In PE over this term the girls have been delivering warm ups to the group on Football and Netball. There have been some fantastic sessions delivered and we have some amazing leaders of the future. Keep it up Girls#Leaders of the future.

Lost Property

Good afternoon.  All lost property that has been collected by both XP and XP East will be available for all students to go and have a look to see if anything belongs to them. It will be in XP East in the Drama space from tomorrow. Please encourage your child to have a quick look as we have collected a large volume in just 1 term. Many thanks. XP Office

E25: How to Save a Life!

As part of E25’s expedition ‘Under the Skin’, students having been learning about how the lungs structure links to function. After half term they will be learning about the heart, so as an introduction we had St John’s Ambulance in as an expert, who spent a few hours teaching students about First Aid and resuscitation.

Students learnt:

Communication and casualty care–  how to communicate effectively in a first aid situation and be able to make an emergency call. Students participated in  role play scenarios challenging students to think about how they would respond in a first aid situation.

Coping in an emergency- how to assess and manage an incident, and create an action plan for first aid steps.

Primary survey-  how assess a situation for dangers and know how to check the casualty’s responses, open their airway and check for breathing.

Recovery position-  this is a first aid technique that is used for unresponsive and breathing casualties that keeps their airway open and allows them to breathe.

Resuscitation- how to do CPR, rescue breaths and a defibrillator to keep the casualty’s heart and circulation going.

Students had a brilliant time learning about the heart, first aid and also a valuable life skill!
