C25 Fieldwork/Expert Session

University of Hull - British Association for American Studies

Students in C25/Year 10 will be visiting the University of Hull on Tuesday 30th November as part of their current expedition ‘A Nazi Calls’. The primary purpose of the visit is to attend a lecture delivered by on of the University’s academics and will focus on the principles behind the Nazi Ideology and how this relates to the science of genetics. Whilst at the university, students will also be able to meet with student ambassadors and have a tour of the campus to give them a sense of what uni life is like!

We will be departing at around 8.45 and be returning for approximately 14.30 so there will be no change to the start and finish times of the school day for students. Students will need to bring a packed lunch unless they access free school meals, in which case school will provide one for them. Students will need to dress appropriately as they normally do for school.

Best wishes,

Mr Voltaire

Finally E27 are able to show off their great work to their families in a presentation of learning. This is an opportunity for the students to show off their work and learning form their current expedition! Something we are so excited to have back at XPE.

If your child is in E27 they will be hosting a PoL on Tuesday 7th December, starting at 16:00.

We will post a reminder closer to the event and we hope to see you all there!

Badminton Brilliance

As the sports fixtures at XP continue we are proud of our recent performances in the KS3 and KS4 Doncaster school’s badminton league, after a strong turn out for training in the new half term we were excited to test ourselves in competitive matches.

The students were rewarded with a brilliant win in both age groups against De Warenne, a very proud and credible performance by experienced Y10 students and a first taste of victory for our some of new Y7 students.

Well done to all those involved- Mr Stables

We Are XP!

4th for CMFCB in Gateshead

Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band at the Sage, Gateshead on Saturday

Our brass band visitors from last week (Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band) achieved a fantastic 4th place (out of 10) at the weekend. The comments about their performance on the brass band website ‘4barsrest’ were outstanding and the concluding comment read as below…

Wow. So much to commend in this whole performance from Carlton Main — the presentation, choreography (among the band, and the wonderful modern dance) and the playing was top drawer. Such a clever interpretation of an imposing theme, executed so well.

You can read the full remarks on the website 4barsrest

It was lovely to share in this experience with them and for our students to see the work that goes into such a performance.

Carlton Main Frickley in full flow!

We look forward to building a strong partnership between XP and the band in the future and wish them well for the festive season.

D6: business as usual

C24 can breath a huge sigh of relief as the first set of Y11 mocks are almost over (they still have the Spanish Speaking and Art mocks to look forward to!)

However, it’s really important that students keep the momentum going with their revision all through the year, and not just before the next set of mocks (which are scheduled for March).

Click here to view our current enrichment timetable, which includes details of all the all the lunchtime and after school revision sessions available.

We are also encouraging all Y11s to attend D6 on a Saturday morning from 9am-12.30pm each week to access additional support, or just to have a relaxed space for a bit of focussed self-study away from any potential distractions at home.

For those of you who don’t know, D6 is our voluntary sixth day of school which will take place each Saturday during term time. D6 is led by ex-students of XP who are returning to provide our current students with peer to peer academic study support. There will be additional support from our school learning coaches and members of the Leadership Team.  Refreshments will also be provided.

We’re really looking forward to seeing our Y11s at D6 this Saturday!

(Please note that D6 is only open to Y11s at the moment).

1 DAY TO GO C24 & 25 Parents Evening – Post 16 Provision. Wednesday 8th December 2021 at XP East 5.30pm to 7.30pm.

XP & XP East are proud to announce our Post 16 Evening and would like to extend the invitation to parents/carers and students in years 10 & 11 at both schools. FXP have kindly offered to support so refreshments will be available on the night and all funds raised will support our students across both schools. As you will be aware opportunities to attend potential provisions have been difficult to arrange so at XP we decided to invite providers to come and meet our students.

6th form providers have been invited to give a short presentation and will be available with stalls for the rest of the evening to answer any question you may have about their Post 16 provision. We are delighted with the response so far from providers and are looking forward to supporting our students in making informed choices as they come to the end of their XP journey. Please complete the form in the link below if you will be attending.

Madrid 2022 – passport details and EHIC/GHIC polite reminder

Thank you to the parents of students in C26 and C25 (year 9 and year 10) involved in the Madrid 2022 optional visit that have already provided a photocopy of their child/ren’s passport details page. This information will be requested by our travel company, on behalf of our airline, shortly after Christmas.

If you don’t yet have a passport for your child/ren, your child/ren’s passport has expired, or there are fewer than six months remaining on this document after we return on Monday 27th June 2022, then could I remind you that you need to apply for one as soon as possible? For details of applying for or renewing a passport please visit the UK government website here.

Additionally, if you do not have a valid European Health Insurance Card (E.H.I.C.) for your child/ren, then please be aware that these have now been superseded by the General Health Insurance Card (G.H.I.C.) that is completely free-of-charge, and details may be found here. We ask that you take out an E.H.I.C. or a G.H.I.C. to supplement the basic travel insurance policy that we have arranged.

Finally, a polite reminder that the next payment instalment date is 31st November, although you are free to make overpayments any time. Thank you.
