A reminder of the ’Save the Date’ post dated 24th November that C26 are delighted to invite you to a Celebration of Learning. This is the conclusion to their expedition ’Ch ch ch Changes’ and will take place at XP East on Thursday 8th December. Pupils have been working in teams to prepare.

This week meet our Crew members Oscar, Kiera and Dania. In Crew we have been looking at ‘Bullying or banter?’ And how this links to our character traits and HOWLs. Are you being kind? Do you show courage when something is said that you don’t like? Can you use your integrity and make a pledge to put things right if you have crossed the line? Questions we can all ask ourselves as students and adults.

Our crew star of the week is Kiera. Kiera was nominated by Crew as she is always the first one to Crew on a morning, she always respond to emails right away and passes the message on to the rest of the crew, our very own little Miss Efficient.
Crew Obama have decided to raise money for Save the Children by having a ‘wear your pyjamas to school’ day. Both XP and XP East are welcome to partake in the pyjama day. We chose this as a crew as we don’t have a uniform already so we cannot hold a non-uniform day but we wanted to do something fun. The usual dress code still applies so no crop tops or short shorts please, it’s far too cold! The day will also carry on as normal with normal lessons.
On Monday 12th December we will ask for a donation of £1 if you choose to wear pyjamas. All the money goes to charity and we greatly appreciate any donations.
At break there will be a food stall selling tasty snacks. These will be prepared by students from Crew Obama and all money will go towards our charities, so even if you cannot participate in the pyjama day you can still buy food and help us raise money!
This week Olivia Shaw from Crew Frank in E26, took on several long distance swimming trials. Olivia completed a 5000m swim beating her past best along with a 60 length challenge that was completed in just 24 minutes!!
Olivia also competed in the 800m and 400m time trails where she placed second and third respectively. It seems we have our very own Rebecca Adlington in the making!!
Well done from the whole PE team Liv!! keep smashing it!
Crew Rowling have once again been extremely busy during their crew time.
On Friday last week, the lovely ladies from Big C Little Warrior came into school and Crew Rowling were able to support them by helping put together Christmas bundles for patients receiving vital cancer treatment. These included warm socks, mindfulness colouring books, pencils, hand and lip cream, power banks and much more. Crew felt really humbled to be a part of this task and enjoyed every minute of it. We were also finally able to present Annette with the funds we raised from our bake sale which totalled £105!
Today, Crew had a little bit of down time and we spent time engaging in a little festive activity with help from Mrs Watson from XP Outdoors. The task was making wood cookie ornaments. This activity gave us time to chat and have fun together while getting into the festive spirit. Faith can’t wait for her ornament to have pride of place!
Next week we are looking forward to Harvey running his own student-led crew session which I know he has been working hard behind the scenes preparing for.
We look forward to keeping you updated on what this entails.
If there is a better way for C25 to revise for A Christmas Carol, I don’t know it!
Last Thursday we took the students of C25 to the Savoy cinema for an exclusive private screening of Mark Gatiss’ National Theatre Production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol in preparation for their mock exam on Friday. The students’ behaviour was superb and the production was excellent. It showed the disparity between the rich and the poor in Victorian society whilst giving clarity to the students on both plot and character development. We hope to be able to replicate this event with future production.
A special thanks to all the staff at the Savoy cinema who were so friendly and patient with both our staff and students.
After our regular Mindful Monday check in crew Moore were set the challenge of working as a team to create banner of Christmas bunting. Each table was given just a craft pack and a set of instructions. The activity was time bound meaning they need to work quickly and communicate well. Both teams grappled with missing parts and elements falling off before achieving their goals. We ended with a quick clean up maintaining our leave no trace moto.
We had an amazing night presenting C24 with their GCSE certificates and celebrating their achievements one last time. Extra congratulations to those students who received an Exceptional Contribution award (see full list in the slides above), although it’s worth saying that you *all* deserve an award for showing resilience, determination and commitment to learning throughout your time with us – especially during lockdown.
Special mentions must go to Lewis D (XPE) and Eleanor D (XP) who were given the Exceptional GCSE Results Award. Absolutely amazing results and very well deserved. We are so excited to see what the future holds for you both!
If you were unable to attend, certificates will be available for collection from Tuesday 6th December from your school office. We are unable to post these to you as they must be signed for. Please let us know in advance if you would like to collect your Art Portfolio at the same time and we’ll have this ready for you.
Important notice to all BTEC Sport/Music/Engineering Students: your certificates are also available for collection (apologies to those who came to the presentation evening… you’ve got to come back again!)
Keep in touch, C24. Your XP/XPE journey may be over, but we will be Forever Crew.
